Players at Milpitas Sports Center

I must have missed quite a few. Here they are anyway: (over 300 photos)

Barry Or at the Nationals

Barry Or made to the quarter-final with Mark Johnson in the U3700 Doubles. He also advanced from quite a few rating events. However, the most difficult match he played was probably against the USATT Magazine editor Larry Hodges in a wagered side match - whoever lost would donate $20 to the junior program. It was a 2 out of 3 to 11 match. The catch was that Larry would use a clipboard. You heard me right. It was a unmodified 9x12 wood clipboard available at any Office Depot. Should have been a walk in the park for Barry, right? Barry ended up lost 2 straight games! Some minor details I forgot to tell Barry was that Larry constantly beat players under 2000 using the clipboard. The rumor is that he used to play table tennis with a shoe.

Sorry, Barry! It is all for the sport.

Jim Chai and Bruce Liu at the Nationals

There is really nothing to write home about. Both Jim and I couldn't focus on our matches in Vegas for some reason. (No, Jim is not in the photo.)

Wayne Lo at the Nationals

Wayne Lo had a fantastic tournament. He participated in the Paralympics events at the US Nationals. Congratulations to him. He will play our RR free till then end of 2007. Here is his result:
  • Men's Standing Open: 4th place
  • Men's Singles Class 8: 1st place
  • Men's Class 8-9 (Team event): 2nd place

Claire at the Nationals

Claire Yeh (next to Mark Johnson) did not win any event at the Nationals. However, with a rating of 423, she managed to beat three 900 players and one 700 player. I heard Jim Chai (the rightmost one) helped her during the matches but I don't think it had anything to do with her winning.:-)

I believe Claire's rating will have a very big boost, if not the biggest, after the Nationals.

Ariel at the Nationals

In addition to Dave Hanson, we actually have another multiple event winners!
  • U21 Women's Singles: Ariel is only 11 and made the quarter-final.
  • U2300 - Lost in the quarter-final to the event winner Dave Rosensweig.
  • Girls' Primary School Singles (13&U): 1st place
  • Cadet Girls: 1st place

Dave Hanson at the Nationals

Here is the 10-year-old who put Dave Hanson on the rope in their under 1400 match. Dave barely squeezed by by winning the match in 5 games. (trailing 2:8 in the fifth) Dave then breezed through the rest of the matches in the event and cruised to win the U1500 on his boosted confidence.:-)

Stefan and Khoa at MSC (12/9/2006)

It was a great treat, wasn't it? Who could have thought our players, Voltaire and Ming, could beat Stefan and Khoa?:-) Well, even with the spot it wasn't easy. Job well done.
Here are photos taken by Dan Lin. (http://www.milpitas-tabletennis.com/events/Stefan_Khoa_12092006/)
